The Canesten thrush duo contains an oral capsule and tube of external cream that work together to fight thrush at the source of infection. Thrush is a common yeast infection that many people experience at some point in their lives, especially women. Symptoms include itching, irritation, burning sensation when you go the loo or unusual vaginal discharge. The active ingredient in Canesten oral capsule is fluconazole, an anti fungal that works to restore the balance of good and bad bacteria in your body and fight against the fungi or yeast that may be causing your thrush.
The Canesten oral capsule and cream is an effective single dose treatment for vaginal thrush that can also be used by your partner if he is experiencing symptoms of thrush. The capsule is to treat thrush at the site of infection, and the cream is to treat any irritation or itchiness around the vulva.

Useful tips and advice
To ease thrush and prevent further episodes:
- Use water and an emollient (like E45 cream) instead of soap to wash the affected area
- Dry properly after washing
- Wear cotton underwear
- Do not use soaps or shower gels
- Avoid perfumed products in and around your intimate area
- Do not wear tight underwear or tights
- Wipe from front to back after going to toilet
- Change your tampons or pads frequently
- Avoid indulging in hot bubble baths
- Avoid stress and maintain a healthy diet free from high-sugar food

- Consult your doctor or a pharmacist before use if you are taking any medication other than the contraceptive pill and if you are under 16 or over 60
- The capsule is for oral use
- The cream is for external use only
- Keep out of the reach and sight of children
- Do not store above 25°C
- Do not use after the expiry date
- If you have thrush, it’s best to avoid having sex until you’ve completed a course of treatment and the infection has cleared up as your partner may become infected.
- As with other creams, this product may reduce the effectiveness of rubber contraceptives, such as condoms or diaphragms. In this scenario, please use alternative protection for at least five days after using this product.
Do not use if you are
Do not use Canesten Thrush Duo Oral Capsule & External Cream without first consulting your doctor:
- If you are under 16 or over 60 years of age.
- If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in Canesten Thrush Duo Oral Capsule & External Cream or other antifungals and other thrush treatments.
- If you are taking the antihistamine terfenadine or the prescription medicine cisapride.
- If you have had thrush more than twice in the last six months.
- If you have any disease or illness affecting your liver or kidneys or have had unexplained jaundice.
- If you suffer from any other chronic disease or illness.
- If you or your partner have had exposure to a sexually transmitted disease. If you are unsure of the cause of your symptoms.
Women only, do not use Canesten Thrush Duo Oral Capsule & External Cream if:
- You are pregnant, suspect you might be pregnant or are breastfeeding.
- You have any abnormal or irregular vaginal bleeding or a blood stained discharge
- You have vulval or vaginal sores, ulcers or blisters.
- You are experiencing lower abdominal pain or burning sensation on passing water.
- You are experiencing any adverse events such as redness, irritation or swelling associated with the treatment.
- You are experiencing fever or chills, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea.
- You have foul smelling vaginal discharge.
Men only, do not use Canesten Thrush Duo Oral Capsule & External Cream if:
- Your sexual partner does not have thrush.
- You have penile sores, ulcers or blisters.
- You have an abnormal penile discharge (leakage).
- Your penis has started to smell.
- You have pain on passing urine.
How to use
- Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water (with or without food).
- The cream should only be used externally.
- Apply thinly and evenly over the affected area 2 or 3 times daily and rub in gently.
- Treatment should be continued until the symptoms disappear, or up to 1 week in women and up to 2 weeks in men. If symptoms persist for more than 7 days, see your doctor.
Ingredients
Capsule active ingredients: Fluconazole 150mg.
Other ingredients: Lactose Monohydrate.
Cream active ingredients: Clotrimazole 200mg (2% w/w).
Other ingredients: Benzyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan Stearate, Cetyl Palmitate, Cetostearyl Alcohol, Octyldodecanol, Purified Water.
